The course had several contents and assignments each of which came with a different level of understanding on using accounting information. Areas of the content and assignments that really improved my understanding of accounting information had to do with those that deal directly with practical application of accounting practices. These contents and assignments have impacted on my understanding of accounting information in terms of how such practical information can be used as a tool for collective corporate growth including financial growth. In terms of the manager’s role, the understanding developed has helped me in appreciating that what the manager has to do does not only have to deal with the preparation of paperwork but putting these into practical action. Consequently, my goals have been shaped into more action oriented ones.

In my opinion, the contents and assignments came in two major forms, which were the practical lessons and theoretical lessons. Of these, the practical lessons were the ones that improved my understanding of using accounting information to make decisions most. This is because as far as organizational decision making is concerned, it would be noted to be a very practical concept which is best achieved when all people within the organization will be made put their knowledge to work (Ittner & Larcker, 2003). This is a situation that is not different with accounting information. As a result, the content on ‘cost, profit, and investment centers’ was the one that improved my understanding of using accounting information to make decisions for my organization.
